We’re only 5 months away from our WEDDING DATE, and we couldn’t be more excited!!! We still have a lot of things to plan but we are loving it ❤ As most of you know, we are getting married back home in Madrid, Spain, so we are planning many things long-distance (thank God my mum has everything under control!)
Now that we finally have a venue and a date (it took us almost 2 months!), I feel like we can start focusing on the other details such as a wedding dress (which by the way I am having a lot of trouble finding), invitations, decorations, travel insurance plan, etc.
When it comes to planning a wedding, usually what people do right away is look for that perfect gown and that is totally understandable, but for us it was more to figure out the venue and date as soon as possible as these things get booked very fast. And with that comes travel insurance, so important guys! The last thing you want is for your dream trip to turn into a nightmare. I’ve been dreaming about this day since I was little and I literally want everything to go as PERFECT as possible. And if something unexpected happens whether it’s a flight cancellation, luggage lost, or a medical emergency (which would be very unfortunate), I want to make sure that our friends travelling and us are covered and that everything is taken care of… as these kind of expenses can cause you a real headache. I don’t want to put anybody at risk!
At first we weren’t really sure whether we needed travel insurance since we already have a credit card that covers that. So why get supplemental insurance, right? Nonetheless we did our homework and checked not only WHAT’S already covered by our credit card, but HOW MUCH is covered! This for me is key… because while we are for instance covered for lost luggage, it’s only covered up to a certain amount (usually around $500), and for me that’s not enough, considering that I will be packing my wedding dress which is worth much more than that and very valuable gifts and personal stuff.
Once we figured out that we needed Travel insurance for everyone going to our wedding in Spain, we did some research and we decided to go ahead with RBC Insurance. The process is the easiest thing ever, and the information is very easy to digest. It’s all done through a secure online platform so you can request a quote for the group and information without leaving your place (no one wants to in this horrible weather anyways!) and without any commitment. The insurance packages are SUPER affordable, and I didn’t think about it twice when I received the quote!
In our case, the one that made the most sense is the Deluxe package (which is the most complete coverage so we are free of headaches) for 15 days, which includes ALL of the following:
- UNLIMITED emergency medical
- Trip cancellation and interruption, baggage loss, damage or delay
- Flight and travel accidents
- 24/7 Emergency Assistance
- Concierge service
This package might not make sense for everyone as you might be covered by your credit card. So make sure you do your homework and you top up your areas of coverage. And if after reading this, you are still unsure about whether you need travel insurance, I would say just get one. RBC Insurance even has an app for travellers to download called PATH, which provides local maps to help you find nearby medical facilities and contacts for local medical experts. You can download the app through either the Apple Store or Google Play.
The cost of travel insurance is literally peanuts compared to what a true worst-case scenario might cost. If you are going on a trip with a group of people, whether it’s backpacking with friends across Europe or traveling to an island for a destination wedding this is the way to go!
And now that my trip is planned, I really need to focus on getting a wedding gown since time is literally flying! Stay tuned! If you have any recommendations, please send them my way. And don’t forget to follow along on Instagram for our wedding journey!
